FHL Durness Par Reg 941 B4SR V 28 at chr of son James, his father is given as Hugh Mackay, alias macuilammachustian, tenent in Lettermore, parish of Tongue; marriage lists Hugh Mackay, alias Macuileammachustian, in Lettermore, parish of Tongue to Mary Clarke, dau of James Clarke, tacksman of Clashneach
"Genealogy of the Family of Mackay, sometime of Sandwood and Kinlochbervie, but Anciently of Kirkiboll, Ribigill and Lettermore, with an account of the Clan Mackay," by Angus Mackay, M.A., at National Library of Scotland, states that Hugh of Sandwood married Mary Clark and had (among others) Hugh of Sandwood & Kinlochbervie who d. 1869 and md Margaret Annan Scott.
This conflicts with Book of Mackay, which attached Mary Clark as wife to William McHuistean, Hugh's father.
"Genealogy of the Family of Mackay..." continues and names all his siblings, marriage of parents, and mother's birth and death information, but only gives this Hugh on a chart and states: "Lettermore was ultimately attached to the Ribigill farm, and Hugh Mackay then removed to Clashneach, and his grandmother to Borley, both on the Keoldale farm in Durness, where his son Hugh and the younger children were born. When these places were added to the Keoldale farm, he obtained a tack of Sandwood in the early years of the 19th century. After his death Sandwood passed to his eldest son, Robert. The latter emigrated to Australia and was succeeded by his brother Hugh 1839. He died at Sandwood in 1831 and was buried at Alsher, Edderachillis, where his tombstone bears this inscription: 'Erected to the memory of Hugh Mackay, Taxman [sic for Tacksman] of Sandwood, who departed this life upon the 19th of May 1831, aged 70 years. Be ye also ready.'"
