The Book of Mackay pg 348; had sassine of Slogarie in 1471 and 16 Aug 1482 charter under Great Seal of Balmage in Slogarie; Temple dates from Ordinance Index #91497 - gives birth date as 1472, which would be impossible with the 1482 actual marriage date
History of the Lands and Their Owners in Galloway, FHL 941.49 H2m v. 3, p 108 states: "William Macge of Balmage appeared in a cause before the lords auditors of Parliament in 1478, and acquired from James III, on the 14th August 1484, a charter of his lands. It is thus evident that the family was free from the crushing influence of the Church...The lands of Tormellan, Grobdaill, Cauknok, and Bellema, subsequently belonged to the M'Ghies, but previously were possessed by the Aschennans...New charters were obtained by the M'Ghies from James IV in 1513, and James V in 1527. However, we find beyond this little or no information about the family."
