The History of the Clann Mackay 1977 HP1.77.3303 at National Library of Scotland states: Somerled, a Hedbridean chief and progenitor of the clan Macdonald, in 1141, evicted the Norsement from his territory. In 1164 he was killed at Renfrew on the Clyde by Malcolm IV.
