[10345] History of the Lands and Their Owners in Galloway, Vol 4, p 438-9 states he ws a zealous Covenanter. On the 2d Apr 1679 he was outlawed by the Prelatic Commission for not appearing. He succeeded his father 18 Feb 1680. On that date he was sumoned before the Justiciary Court, sentenced to be executed when taken, and his property confiscated to His Majesty's use. Patrick, however, was restored and represented the Stewartry in King William's Parliament. His son Alexander had sasine 28 Apr 1720, so Patrick died before that.

[4959] The Book of Mackay, pg 334-5 - captain 1805 in 78th Highlanders; Calabria 1806, battle of Maida & capture of Catrone; "In 1807 he served in Egypt, was present at the attack on the fort and heights of Alexandria, the siege of Rosetta, and the actions at El Hamet on the 20th and 21st April. At this last battle he was dangerously wounded in neck by sabre cut, got a ball in the head and another in the foot at the same time. Of the Grenadier company, whom he led that day and who were mostly his own tenantry, two subalterns and fifty-nine men were killed out of a total of seventy. The nine survivors, who were all wounded except one, practically hewed their way through the serried ranks of the enemy carrying their wounded captain along with them, although he was supposed to be mortally hurt." He took part in 1814-5 campaign in Holland, both Merxem & Antwerp; Major 11 Aug 1814, Lieut-col 10 Jan 1837; 1830 sold Strathhalladale or Bighouse to Marquis of Stafford, bought place in Berwickshire which he called Bighouse, and afterwards bought estate near Arisaig to which he also gave that name
