The Book of Mackay pg 374; given Baile Vicar, Machaire, Learga-riavach, Ciontraha, Gaftol, Tocamol, Ugasgog, the two Glenastols, Cracobus, Cornubus, and Baile-nechton in 1408 from John Macdonald;
Some Notes Upon the Mackays of the Rhinns of Islay by Lieut-Col Gayre of Gayre and Nigg, Minard Castle, by Inveraray, Argyll, Scotland - at the National Library of Scotland H381.3606 "Brian Vicar Mackay, who according to the Gaelic charter of 1408, was granted extensive lands in Oa, Islay, was presumably a cadet of the MacKays of the Rhinns of Islay. He was probably the first of the "maors" of the Southward division of Islay...who held the office until 1606...It was probably this Brian Vicar Mackay...who attacked Craignish about 1400 with the intention of harrying and burning their lands. Their landing place was the rock Sgeir nan Ileach, as it is still known. In this raid the chief lost his son. According to the same author, we learn that these Mackays kept a stud of horses."
There is a local tradition that "MacAodh na Ranna (Mackay of the Rhinns) was known as the Islay Seer and was buried beside the ancient chapel on Orsaig Island." It is possible that this was Brian Vicar Mackay.
