Book of McKee, p 139 quotes letter from Hugh to his mother:
"In Camp on the Schuylkill, Dec. 12, 1777. Dear Mother: My company came here yeserday and we are preparing for a long stay. We feel that we have a long gloomy winter ahead. The General does not think we will move before spring. My foot is still very sore and walking about in the cold and snow with it bound up in cloth does not help it any god knows I do not complain when my comrades are also without shoes and without covering, and our country's liberties are in the balance. We laugh at our hardships and joke about the beef-fed Britons...Father (James) and brother (Thomas) are out scouting toward Philadelphia."
The book goes on to quote "American Revolutionary Soldiers of Franklin County, Pennsylvania":
"Hugh McKee became a Captain of Riflemen before the close of the War. He was also Captain of the Congruity Rifles during the War of 1812. His wife, Elizabeth [IGI gives her name as Jane Tompson]Thompson, born 1764 in Cumberland Co. He was buried in old Punxsutawny graveyard, 1st burial."
pg 179 states [he] "is said to have been killed March 21, 1812, by a falling log." pg 184 explains further: After the settlement in Westmoreland County, Hugh McKee married and purchased a farm near his father's home, and there all his children were born. After the death of his father, in 1810, he moved into Jefferson County, Pennsylvania, and settled at Hamilton Post Office, where he was killed by a log falling upon him from the roof of his cabin. He was buried in the old Punxsutawney graveyard, his being the first grave in that cemetery."
IGI gives death date as 21 or 22 Mar 1821, which seems more likely - since he served in the War of 1812.
