Obituary of John Brooke-White FIPENZ, a member of the institution for nearly 40 years, and who held the rank of Colonel in the Royal New Zealand Engineers, died recently at the age of 77. Born in Wellington, Colonel Brooke-White gained engineering qualifications at Canterbury Univesity College and the Imperial College, London. He first worked for the Ministry of Works in 1931 until four years later he joined the RNZE. After the war during which he was stationed in the Middle East, the Pacific and Europe, he held a number of senior staff appointments retiring from the army following service with the New Zealand High Commission in London in 1959. He was awarded the OBE in 1950. On his eventual return to this country, he rejoined the MWD as assistant staff engineer. Colonel Brooke-White was widely recognised in Wellington's drama circles being a member of the New Zealand Drama Council and a foundation member of Downstage. He is survived by his wife and three children.

Jonas Matthew White died on 20 April 1908 at Waimauku; ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES. Fatal Trap Accident. AUCKLAND, April 21. At Helensville, to-day, Jonas Matthew White, aged 18, his brother, Mr P. White (of Helensville), and Mr N. Kay (of Mount Roskill), were cantering on horseback, when a trap, occupied by Messrs O'Cadam and Hart, came in the opposite direction. The shaft of the vehicle penetrated the side of the first-named lad, and as he was badly injured he was immediately driven back to Helensville. White died early this morning. An inquest was held to-day, and a verdict of accidental death was brought in. Wanganui Herald, 22 April 1908.1

Patrick White died on 25 November 1899 at Waimauku, New Zealand; Casualties - J. White, a railway employee, died suddenly at Waimauku. He leaves a widow. He had been connected with the Kaipara railway from its inception, and was a ganger when the line was taken over by the Railway department. He had been 30 years in the colony. Otago Witness, 7 December 1899, page 19 (Although recorded as J. White, all the facts fit with the death of Patrick White).2

Ronald Gordon White died in 2004; According to his cousin June Cumming she went to his funeral at a funeral home in Mt Eden. He was living in a resthome in Epsom.
