1. Charles1 Porter; b. circa 1680; m. Ann (--?--) circa 1710; d. circa 1735 in Isle of Wight, VA; An appraisal of his estate was recorded October 27, 1735.

Charles Porter moved to Isle of Wight County, VA around 1715 and was granted land 16 Aug 1715, 22 Feb 1724, and 28 Sept 1728 for a total of 695 acres on the south side of the Nottoway River in what is now Southampton County.

7. John3 Porter (Thomas2, Charles1); b. circa 1740; m. Rebecca (--?--) circa 1763; Her name may have been Barlow. Rebecca had 2 descendants named Rebecca Barlow Porter, and two of her sons were Benjamin and Jesse. Benjamin and Jesse Barlow lived in Isle of Wight County; d. 1777 in Southampton County, VA; He left a will which was destroyed by Etheldred Brantley. Brantley then married the widow Rebecca on 6 Feb 1778. The case against Etheldred and Rebecca for wasting and embezzling the estate of John Porter was dropped. The inventory of John's estate was recorded Jan 10, 1782.

Etheldred Brantley posted guardian bond in 1782 as guardian to Thomas, John, Ben, Jesse & Tabitha. In 1785 he received his wife's portion of the estate of John Porter.

As of 1 Feb 1828, $28.00 had been repaid.

21. John4 Porter (John3, Thomas2, Charles1); b. circa 1767; m. Lucy Hopkins, daughter of James Hopkins and Elizabeth (--?--), 7 Jan 1797 in Williamson, TN; m. Miriam German 6 Jun 1812 in Williamson, TN; d. 19 Oct 1827 in Williamson, TN.

He was called 'lame' John Porter on records after 1807 to distinguish him from other John Porters living in Williamson. Tax lists and his marriage to Miriam German all have this designation.

·         28. ii. Mary J.; b. circa 1803 in Williamson, TN; m. Moses E. Cator 4 Mar 1834 in Williamson, TN.  She gave her age as 41 in 1850 and as 54 in 1860. Both of these are probably wrong, as the 1820 census includes a daughter born between 1800 and 1805 and one born between 1805-1810.  Because the exact birth date of her sister Amanda is know to be 1809, Mary must have been the older one.

·         + 29. iii. Thomas Brantley, b. 2 Nov 1804 in Williamson, TN; m. Mary Jane Covington; m. Malinda Elizabeth Beluh; m. Elizabeth Chauncey; m. Phoebe Boyer.

·         30. iv. Joseph Moody; b. 1806 in TN; d. 1865 in Johnson, AR.  He was on the 1850 census alone in Johnson Co. AR and on the 1860 census living with niece Serena Chandler in Sebastian Co. AR. He probably never married. Federal Land records in Arkansas give his middle name as Moody.

[Her middle name was perhaps Barlow.]  She was listed as a minor in 1830. In 1850 Johnson Co. AR, she is listed as Rebecca Porter, age 36 with family of brother James.

·         34. iii. John B.; b. circa 1815; d. Sep 1847 in Williamson, TN.  He was listed as still a minor in 1830.

·         35. iv. (--?--); b. circa 1817 in Williamson, TN; Census of 1820 lists 3 daughters under 10; the other two were Rebecca and Serena; d. 1828 in Williamson, TN; coffin for her purchased by estate of John Porter in 1828.

22. Benjamin4 Porter (John3, Thomas2, Charles1); b. 1769 in VA; m. Mary Bridges circa 1799; m. Malinda Roe 6 Nov 1848 in Robertson, TN; d. 18 Oct 1852 in Robertson, TN.  His birth date comes from Goodpseed’s Robertson County, TN article about son Henry Porter and the census of 1850 which gives his age as 80, born VA.  Living in the household with him were Malinda Porter age 50 and Panthea Stark age 16.  Also on the census for Robertson in 1850 was B. B. Porter age 45 with children William 22, Marcus 20, Richard 19, Eliza 12, Areana 10, Nancy 9, and James 7 in 1850.
