43. James WEBB
was born about 1822 in Grayson County, Virginia.40 He died on 2 Oct 1884 in Carroll County, Virginia.12
James age 56 and Mary H. age 65 are listed as in-laws living with their
daughter Louisiana and her husband Abner Gardner in the 1880 in the Carroll County
Census.
"On Jun 1, 1861 he was mustered into Company D, 29th Virtinia at Hillsville.
He was promoted to sargent in the spring of 1862. A curious and freak accident
crippled him in the spring of 1863 near Suffolk. The regiment was part of the
forces laying seige to that place and apparently James Webb took refuge behind
a chimney which was struck by a connon ball. The chimney was toppled on him,
and he was taken to the hospital with cuts about the head, and his chest was
crushed. He survived and was discharged from active duty. In 1882 he was examined
when he applied for his pension and Dr. Wolse on examining him, reported he was
disabled and at times paralysed from the old injury. He died before the turn
