40. Giles WEBB
was born about 1816 in Grayson County, Virginia.21 Giles WEBB and Bathsheba DICKERSON were married in
1840 in Grayson County, Virginia.171
Bathsheba DICKERSON was also known as Bathsheba Webb.
She was also known as Bathsheba Horton.
Bathsheba Dickerson married Giles Webb in 1840. The Webb Reunion minutes
p.5 lists Andrew Horton married to a Bashto Webb. The marriage register lists
Bathsheba Webb, widow, married to Andrew Horton.
The following was found in the Carroll County Chancery records: Andrew Horton
& wife against Peter Webb & Frances Webb. "It is the opinion of
the court that the interests of the parties will be provided by a sale of the
land in the bill mentioned instead of a partition therefore as the said land
is in no wise susceptible of an advantageous division = it is therfore adjudged,
ordered, decreed & considered that William H. Cook one of the regular commissioners
on this court do undertake sale of the said tract of land, at the front door
of the court house of this county ... by public auction to the highest bidder
... & that the said Andrew Webb in receiving the same do out of the same
pay to the clerk of this court such costs as are now due him."
"It appearing to the court that Receiver William H. Cook, in accurance
with the ... February Term 1855 loaned to ... the sum of $55.42 .. proceeds of
the sale of the lands in the bill ... & it further appearing that Andrew
Webb has been appointed guardian to & for the defendants Peter & Francis
Webb ... that the said defendants have no estate for maintenance & education
except thru the said proceeds of sale & the court being of opion (sic)that
the farm is ... for their maintenance & support & ... to be appropriate
... that the said receiver William H. Cook do collect the money ... & pay
over the same to the said Andrew Webb, guardian."
"Andrew Horton & Bathsheba his wife - That ... Bathsheba was formerly
married to Giles Webb - that said Giles Webb died some years since - leaving
two children - Peter & Frances Webb both of whom are infants of tender age
= that said Giles Webb, at the time of his death was the owner of a sizable piece
of land lying on the waters of Snake Creek in Carroll County, containing about
forty acres more or less = that said land was all the real estate to which Giles
Webb was entitled = that said infant children are now the owners of said parcel
of land - & of ... Bathsheba is entitled to dower therein = that said parcel
of land is not of very much value - not including a hundred dollars at th ...
that it is now useless in value from neglect as no person in paying any attention
to it.

was appointed a correspondent to sell the tact of land in the bill & proceedings
p.. & now begs leave to report that after ad.. the .. place & terms of
sale in the ... on the 8th day of June 1852 that being a court day of Carroll
County at the front door of the court house of said county to sell said tract
of land: that Johnson Jenkins became the purchased by bidding $68 = therefor
that being the highest & best bid = that said Jenkins paid down the ... of
the ... & five per centum of the proceeds of sale which sums left the sum
of $51.32 ... with D. A. Vinson & W. C. Hall sureties payable twelve months
after date = that your commisioner paid off the costs of the suit = that since
said ... fell due said Jenkins handed to your commissioner the amount of money
neg.. to satisfy the same which with interest to this day if $55.42 = which sum

Webb raised the girls (apparently Frances Webb and Mary K. Horton.) Giles WEBB
and Bathsheba DICKERSON had the following children:
