February 2007 - "Misfortune Follows Bereavement"

Peter Kidney, of 4174 Main street, Manayunk, did not spend a very happy Christmas yesterday. On Saturday morning his mother died. In the afternoon he lost a pocketbook containing $170 in money and a deed for a lot in St. John the Baptist cemetery. He had just cashed a check for that sum at the Manayunk National Bank, placing the money in the book and putting the latter in his inside overcoat pocket. When he reached home, however, it was missing.

Peter Kidney was the son of Peter Kidney who immigrated to the US around 1874. He appears in the 1880 census in Philadelphia. No evidence currently ties his family to that of Jan/John Kidney.
