p. 34:
Descendants of Hans Spier - Hans, the youmgest son of Hendrick Jansen and Magdalene (Hans) Spier, was baptised
April 8, 1663 and married Tryntje Pieters, of Long Island, 1 Aug 1663. He acquired large tracts of
land near the present town of Belleville; his homestead was on the corner of Main road and Academy street
facing the river, in the present city of Newark. Of his six children, three were sons:
- Hendrick, baptised 5 Oct 1685, married Rachel Teunese Pier, both living within the jurisdiction of Newark;
- Johannis, baptised 7 Oct 1690, lived at Pemmerpogh, married (first) JOhanna Van Yderstein, (second) Geertruy Roome, widow of Hendrick Meyer;
- Abram, who married 17 June 1721, Geertie Bras; must have died soon after his mkarriage, as his widow married 3 Nov 1727, Thomas Ager.
- Herrempje (Armtie), married Daniel Retan, Jr.,
- Maritie, married Adam Koninek (Koning, Kent), and
- Tryntje, married David Roset.
Hendrick Spier and Rachel Teunese Pier, mentioned above, had nine children:
- Saertje, married Johannes Kip;
- Jacob married Egje Van Houte;
- Leah, married Johannes Toers;
- Theunis, named after his maternal grandfather, married Engeltje Cadmus;
- Magdalena, married Johannis Jacobus;
- Johannis, married Lea Smit;
- Hendrick, married Saertje Cadmus, their only child Rachel, married CAPTAIN JOHANN KIDNIE;
- Cornelius and Thomas, twins, baptized Aug. 28, 1729.

John Van Houten, born 7 Jul 1762, married HANNAH KIDNEY and the issue of this marriage was:
- John Kidney,
- James,
- Sally who married George Tyce,
- Rachel who married Henry Riker, and
- Polly who married Halmagh I. Van Wagoner.
