George Feiger (1799-1883 ) and Christiana Juliana Hildebrand (1798-1883) George L. Feiger was born on 15 May 1799 in Hanover, Germany. George was married on 16 February 1824 to Christiana Juliana Hildebrand. Christiana was born on 16 February 1798 (or on 15 May 1802, according to death record) in Wurtemburg. The Feigers emigrated to the United States in 1831. They may have lived in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania in the mid-1830s (two sons later stated they were born there). The earliest record uncovered suggests that the Feiger family was living in Upper Windsor, York County, Pennsylvania in 1840. York County is adjacent and to the south of Lancaster County, located on the border between Pennsylvania and Maryland. 1840 PA York Co. Upper Windsor pg. 267 George FEGER
The Feigers have not been located in the 1850 census. On 1 April 1853 George Feiger purchased 80 acres of land in Lot 640 (No. Lot 19) in Meigs County, Ohio from Andrew Ruger and wife. In 1860 the Feigers were living in Sutton township, Meigs County, Ohio. 1860 Census OH Meigs Co., Sutton twp. p. 242
It is uncertain whether George and Mary were children or grandchildren of the couple (the latter seems likely given Christianas age). On 1 December 1864 George and Christiana sold land to Joseph Bowen, Geo. Bill, D. W. Curtis, and A. Gotshall. On 21 January 1866, the couple sold 80 acres of land in Lot 640, north of Lot 19, to Frederick Bergschicker. A civil judgement, H. Bartels vs George L. Feiger was settled in 1867. In 1870 the family had moved to Salisbury township. 1870 Census OH Meigs Co. Salisbury twp. p. 329, household 258/258
On 9 November 1871, George and Christiana sold 19 acres to a Mr. Smith. George and Christiana lived by themselves in 1880, next door to the Bergschickers..
1880 Census OH Meigs Co., Suttons twp. Racine Precinct p. 317.
Christiana died 13 January 1883 at Sutton, Meigs County, Ohio from consumption, her age at death being listed as 86 years, 11 months, and 16 days. Her obituary was published on 17 January 1883 in the Meigs County Telegraph: "Died- Last Saturday, Mrs. Christina, wife of Geo. Feiger, died at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. Fred Bestinger, in Sutton Township, and was buried on Sunday. Mrs. Feiger was 87 years of age, and had been a resident of county for over half a century. The deceased was the mother of Mr. E. F. Feiger, of this city, and she was a highly respected lady. Her husband survives her. George died a few months later on 26 April 1883. He was living in the Nease settlement, a German and English village organized by the Nease brothers. The Meigs County Telegraph printed his obituary on 2 May 1883: "Death of an old citizen: Mr. George L. Feiger, an old and respected German citizen of this county- the father of Mr. E. F. Feiger, of this city, died last Thursday evening, at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. Fred Bergshecker, in the Nease Settlement, at the advanced age of 84 years. The deceased was born in Hanover, Germany, and emigrated to this country in 1831, settling in PA. He afterward moved to Meigs County, where he resided over 30 years. He raised a family of 11 children, 6 of whom are still living. The wife of the deceased died about 3 months ago. His funeral was held Saturday afternoon." Both are buried in Carmel Cemetery, Sutton Twp., Meigs County, Ohio.
ii. Mary A. Feiger was born on 22 November 1825.
