Inez Fillmore (1871-1911) and Jack Dawson (1861-1954)

Inez Edith Fillmore was born in April 1871 in Grand Traverse County, daughter of Eliphalet Fillmore and Clarissa Worden. She was married in 1890 John "Jack" H Dawson. Jack was born 24 July 1861 at Galesburg, Kalamazoo County, Michigan, the son of James and Ellen Braham Dawson. He was a logger in his younger years before settling in Traverse City. Inez died 20 July 1911 in Traverse City, Grand Traverse County, Michigan. Her cause of death is listed as "puerepteral septurnium." Inez's obituary was published in the Traverse City Record Eagle on 20 July 1911

"MRS. JOHN DAWSON

PASSED AWAY THIS MORNING AFTER A SHORT ILLNESS

Mrs John Dawson, aged 40 years died at her home, 202 West Ninth Street, this morning after a serious illness following the birth of a baby daughter about a week ago. Mrs. Dawson had lived in Traverse City all her life and made friends easily by her cordial manner and genial disposition. Besides the husband and infant daughter, one sister Mrs. Myra Brown, and one brother, Myron (sic) Fillmore, both of this city survive.

The funeral will be held from home at 4:30 O'clock Friday afternoon Rev. W.W. McKee officiating."

Jack subsequently married Inez's niece Florence, however this marriage appears to have ended in divorce. Jack worked as a bartender in the 1910s. Jack died 13 June 1954 in Traverse City and was buried in Oakwood Cemetery. His obituary appeared in the Traverse City Record Eagle on 14 June 1954.

"Jack Dawson, Logger, Dies

John H. Dawson, 92, one of the last of the old time loggers, a resident of this most of his life, died Sunday afternoon at Boardman Valley hospital following a four week's illness.

Mr. Dawson was born July 24th, 1861, in Galesburg, Mich., and when five years of age came here with his parents who took up a homestead in the Garfield township south of the city.

As a young man Mr. Dawson followed the woods, working in the pine forests and later in the hardwood.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Medford Moore of this city, and Mrs. J. B. Rold of Fullerton, Calif.; three grandsons; one niece, Miss. Margaret Dunne of this city.

Mr. Dawson was a life member of the local Masonic lodge , which will have charge of the services, to be held at the Hibbard Chapel Tuesday afternoon at two o'clock, Dr. Howard R. Towne of the First Congregational church, officiating. Burial will be in the family lot in Oakwood."
