Larry Wakefield relates a story that appears to be about the Eley family. He states that the "Ealey" family moved from Indiana around 1868 and through hard work became the envy of their neighbors. They decided to return to Indiana for a visit with their neighbors and on the night before they were to leave they disappeared, although it was believed that they had been murdered. A room inside the house was found to be blood spattered and a bundle of children's clothes were found in the nearby woods. Wakefield says that several neighbors were likely suspects. One neighbor was found to have the family team in his barn, claiming that he had been asked to care for it while the family was away. Another family suddenly had much better bed linen and table service items than they previously had. Relatives arrived to investigate, but could find out nothing. The house on Bass Lake was reported to be haunted and wasn't occupied afterward[34].
