The Connecticut Baxters
The Descendants of Francis C. Baxter (1681 - 1723)
If I were to put all my data on the descendants of Francis C. Baxter into one file, it would contain almost 2500 individuals and would be so large as to take minutes to load onto your screen. To avoid this, I am placing the data concerning Francis here and then will have separate descendant files for each of his children.
I have noticed that some of the information in my database file does not have a source attached. While it will take some time to review my paper files for these missing sources, I have chosen to post what I have with this cautionary comment. You should also review the "Reputed Ancestry of Simon Baxter" for other comments on the validity of this Francis data.
Before you start searching for your ancestor, perhaps a suggestion or reminder might be in order to assist you. It would probably be easier and faster to look for your ancestor using the included search program.
If you find an individual here who may be of interest to you, I encourage you to contact me for more detailed information and source documentation. I would very much like to exchange information with you; please E-mail your comments, additions, corrections, and queries to [email protected].

Descendants of Francis C. Baxter (1681 - 1723)
1. Francis C.1 Baxter was born in 1681. He married (--?--) (--?--) in 1697. He died on 10 Oct 1723 at Brimfield, Hampden County, Mass. He was killed by a gun in the hands of a person named Johnson.
He emigrated in 1698; Emigrated with his young wife to Martha's Vineyard. Simon the Loyalist says his grandfather (Francis) emigrated from Scotland after the rebellion in 1715 in which he had been engaged.
This doesn't fit with the birth of his son Simon in 1697 on Martha's Vineyard. In the 1690's William of Orange defeated supporters of James II in Wales, Scotland, and Ireland. Is this the wrong side that Francis backed and caused them to emigrate? (GFC comment).
Children of Francis C.1 Baxter and an unknown spouse were as follows:
- 2. i. Simon2, born either 1697 or 1698 at Martha's Vineyard Island, Dukes County, Mass; married Abigail Mann; divorced Abigail Mann; married Rebecca Tarbox.
- 3. ii. Francis, born 14 Jan 1717/18 at Enfield, Hartford County, Connecticut; married Mary (--?--); married Sarah Mackfield; married Abigail Aborns Saxton.
- 4. iii. William, born circa 1720; married Joanna (--?--).
- iv. Mary.
