There are dozens, if not hundreds, of different ways to build webpages,  along with an endless array of helpful free "tools", including free tutorials, and more free graphics than you could dream of! Here's a few I have found extremely helpful in building my own webpages....

Webpage Aids
FTP Programs -
  • At ZDNet you can access information and downloads for FTP programs.

  • Using Rootsweb's "How to FTP" page will help a lot

The Rootsweb folk also have a great page with simple, basic help for those just getting started!

  • Basic FAQs - from building the page to uploading it, plus counters, guest books and more
  • HTML Help - more advanced..with some great projects including converting GEDCOM to HTML pages

One of the best ways to learn is often from others who've already struggled with and survived the "Learning Curve"! Pat Asher's HTML -- The Basics is a great site, with easy to understand help by the veteran genealogy-hunter and webpage designer. And besides the "HTML basics", Pat offers lots of other information, including how to put your photos on your site so they load quickly, and links to other informative sites
