There were two older girls in this family who were already married by 1913 and they did not come with the rest of the family to Canada and then the US. One was Katharina and one was Anna-Elisabet Helwer.

The boys all grew up to have stooped backs - which they ascribed to their 'hobby' of weeding sugar beets. When asked what made them adopt this 'hobby' Alexander replied - "Dad's Hoe Handle".
