The first series of stones are all about the same size. I believe they mainly date to the 1860s so I wonder if when they went to using headstones more, if they wanted the headstones to be the same size. By the 1780s when they went to the pastoral system I see that the headstones are now different sizes.

William Hobson, born June 30, 1800, died (looks like Aug) record says 7-1-1862

Sarah A, Harshbarger, daughter of Wm. and A Harshbarger, born Apr. 26, 1853, died Nov. 11, 1860

This stump we are digging out is behind Amon Hockett's stone and Sarah A. Harshbarger's stone. I have marked with a red X where the base for these stones were found.

Charles Maxwell, died 10th mo. 2nd 1877, Aged 56 yrs. 6 mo's 27 d's.

This second series of stones are all Hocketts and all are set flat on the ground in cement. Eventually freezing and thawing and normal wear and tear will make these stones unreadable. If at all possible they should have been upright or at a slope so water can run off.
