The Campbell Family

Many of the Campbells of Haywood County are descended from John D. Campbell (1812-1890). I have been unable to determine his parents or siblings. John D. Campbell lived outside Maiden, NC in a part of Lincoln County that later became Catawba County. Several census entries for him say that he was born in NC. My grandfather Verlin A. Campbell (1877-1958) once told me that our family were Scots-Irish and had entered the country through Philadelphia, PA and had come to NC down the Great Wagon Road through the Shennandoah Valley of VA.
