My search began after the bith of my Grandchildren. When they began to pour over family photos and ask who is this, I ralized that I didn't know as much about my family as I would like to. Over the years we began losing older members of the family. I started talking to my Uncle and my Father and gradually the search grew. I am now trying to put together both sides of my family as far back as possible.
During my search I remembered that my cousins, Patricia, Michael, and Beverly Jeffrey, had lived with us in approximately 1950 after they were abandoned by both their Father, Earl Jeffrey and their Mother Lucille (known as Lucy). These children were all adopted out separately since my parents did not meet the financial standards of the day for adoptive parents. In addition my Grandmother was deemed too old to adopt them. My parents were both legally blind and had three daughters, which did not help their hopes to adopt my cousins.
My cousins were the children of my Mother's brother. My mother was Mildred Gladys Jeffrey born 8/27/22 in Austin TX. Married Charles E. Garrett 11/1/41 in San Antonio TX. Died 2/3/83 in San Antonio. My Father was born in Hill County TX on 6/21/21 and died 10/18/05 in San Antonio, TX.
The key to finding my cousins is my Grandmother. Her name was Esther Mae Jenkins born 1896 in Leander TX. Married Leonard Jeffrey approximately 1919 in Austin TX. Two Children my Mother, and Earl Jeffrey born in 1920. My Grandmother's Mother was Margaret Elizabeth Stokerborn 29 Aug 1870 in Leander TX, died 6/6/1944. My Grandmother's Father was William Bethel Jenkins. They had 8 chidren. One boy died in infacy. The girls (as far as I know) were Esther, Nora, Emmy, Imogene, Lione, Bessie.
