Wiesenmuller Village Records

Hugh Lichtenwald, Wiesenmuller Village Coordinator for AHSGR, reports that the Saratov Archives have the 1901 through 1919 birth/baptismal records for Wiesenmuller. They probably have records for the other Jeruslan villages, however they will not tell you what they have unless an order is placed.

Their fees break down like so:

Opening one book .......................................$15.00

Copying one page......................................... 11.00

Bank charge................................................. 8% of the amt of money transferred.

Plus fees for processing the order:

Order amounts to $100....................... 75.00

to $500.........................200.00

to $1,000......................400.00

to $1,500......................500.00

Plus translation fees which are $35.00 per hour.

SO, if one bought the birth/baptismal records one year at a time the cost would run like so:

Opening the books: 1 X 15..............................15.00

Copying (average of 50 pages per year) 550.00

8 per cent bank charge...................................53.20

Processing fees......................... 400.00

Translation fees: about 8 hrs.............. 280.00

Total average cost for each year's data about: $1,278.20 (not including postage)

The problem is the copying fee and the so-called research fee for each book. The Volgograd Archives charges $5 per book and $2 per page while the Saratov Archives charges $15 a book and $11 a page.

Though Hugh doubts that the Saratov Archives would agree to sell all of the records (years 1901 through 1919 birth/baptismal) as a group, if enough money could be raised to buy them all at once there might possibly be a financial savings of, perhaps, three thousand dollars.

Hugh’s interest in the Jeruslan area is post 1857 to the present day. His goal is to connect the original Jeruslan village setters with their descendants. He has already purchased and translated (or has had translated) the records available at the Volgograd Archives. If you have any interest in assisting with obtaining more of the villages records, please contact Hugh. Email
