Of the Tenth Meeting of the

Muddy River Association

Begun and held at

Rectors Fork Meeting House

Hamilton County, Illinois

Saturday preceeding the Third Lord's

day, and days following in September 1830

Agreeably to appointment, Elder William Gholson preached the Introductory Sermon from the second Book of Samuel, 5th chapter, and first verse: "Then came all the tribes of Israel, &".

The Association then convened and being opened with prayer by Elder John Hamilton, proceeded to business.

1. Letters from the following churches were read and their messengers names enrolled.

2. Chose Elder Stephen Stilley Moderator, Brother John Lockhart Clerk, and Brother Johathan Floyd Assistant Clerk.

3. Received no Letter of correspondence from the Little River Association, Ky.

4. Received a Letter of correspondence from Illinois Association, but no messenger.

5. Received no Letter of correspondence from Salem Association, Ind.

6. Received a Letter of correspondence from Little Wabash Association, by the hand of their messenger, Elder John Pearce, who took his seat with us.

7. Received a Letter of correspondence from Cape Girardeau Association by the hands of their messengers, Elders Brown & McIntosh, who took their seats with us.

8. Appointed Brother Floyd to write a corresponding letter to Little River Association, Elder Hamilton to Illinois, Elder Gehan to Salem, Ind., Elder Henderson to cape Girardeau, and Brother Wamoc to Little Wabash.

9. Appointed Brothers Stilley, Floyd, Wamoc, Henderson, and Hamilton a committee of arrangement to report on Monday Morning.

10. Requested Elders Brown, McIntosh, Pearce and Ross to occupy the stand tomorrow, and that worship commence at 10 o'clock a.m.

11. Adjourned until Monday Morning 10 o'clock.

12. Sunday worship was opened by Elder Pearce, from Isaiah, chap. 3, verses 10 & 11, "Say to the righteous, &", Elder Brown from St. John, chap. 3, verse 1, "Marvel not that I said unto thee &", Elder McIntosh from Revelations, chap. 3, verse 20, "Behold I stand at the door and knock &".

Wolf Creek Church received at this Association.

13. Monday met according to adjournment, and after prayer by the Moderator, proceeded to business.

14. Called for the committee's arrangement, which was read, received and the committee dismissed.

15. Our next Association to be held at Granpier, Pope Co., Ill. To commence the Saturday preceeding the 3rd Lord's day in September 1831. Elder Henderson to preach the Introductory Sermon, in case of failure, Elder Gehon, worship to commence at ten o'clock A.M.

16. Called for the corresponding Letter to the Little Wabash Association, which was read and received, and appointed Elders Wm. Gholson and Wm. Lasswell bearers of the same.

17. Called for the corresponding Letter to Illinois; as no bearers could be procured, the Association agrees to forward it by the first opportunity that offers.

18. Called for the corresponding Letter to Little River, and appointed Elder George Gehon, bearer of the same.

19. Called for the corresponding Letter to Cape Girardeau, and appointed Elders Stilley and Gehon, bearers of the same.

20. Called for the corresponding Letter to Salem, Ind. and appointed Brother James Gholson bearer of the same.

21. The Association agrees that the present year's expenses be paid out of the money now in the hands of the Treasurer.

22. Appointed Brothers Gehon & Floyd a committee of finance, who report that they have received on settlement with Brother Richard Cantril, late Treasurer of this Association $9.37 and have paid over the same to Brother Thomas Gassway, who is appointed Treasurer of this Association, in the room of Brother Richard Cantril.

23. Took up the following query, (i.e.) Is it consistent with good order to grant a bill of faults to excluded members if they should request it? The Association feel no disposition to encroach on the rights or liberties of any Church belonging to her bounds, but would say, if requested, there would be no impropriety in granting the request.

24. The Association agrees to Brother Lockhart's reply to the American General Tract Societie's request; and that a copy of that letter be retained with the record of this Association.

We received by the hand of Brother Lockhart, our Secretary, the report of the 3rd annual meeting of the Baptist General Tract Society; that report contains a request for a copy of our minutes, with the names of the ordained and licensed ministers of our order, in the bounds of the Association & . We do not feel at liberty to join issue with your Society, but by way of courtesy, we herewith request Brother Lockhart to send you a copy of our minutes, when printed, which embraces the only part of the request that we can comply with, agreeable to our personal feelings. If your work is for the Lord, may it be his divine will to bless it, and you. Amen. Done by the order of the Association held at Rector's Fork Meeting House, Hamilton Co., Ill., the Saturday preceeding the third Lord's day in September 1830.

25. The Association agrees to hold a yearly meeting at Little Spring Meeting House, Hamilton Co., Ill. to commence the Friday preceding the third Lord's day in August 1831. Request that Brothers Hamilton, Gehon, Baker, & McCool to attend the same.

26. Those churches feeling a desire in having one abstract of Principles annexed to the next Minutes, will signify the same in their Letters to the next Association.

27. The Association requests Brother Lockhart to prepare those Minutes for the Press; and that Brother Wathen assist him in superintending the printing of the same, have 300 copies struck, receive 5 copies for each corresponding Association, one for the Secretary, and distribute the balance among the Churches, in proportion to the number of members of each Church and call upon the Treasurer for money to pay for the printing of the same.

28. Then adjourned to the time and place appointed.
