DANIEL REEVES PROMINENT CITIZEN OF BROUGHTON DEAD

Daniel Arthur Reeves, son of Sampson and Anna Reeves, was born March 15, 1854 died June 22, 1924, aged 70 years, 3 months and 7 days.

Sampson Reeves came to Broughton in 1873. His wife and one daughter having previously died, his family consisted of six sons and three daughters: Geo., William, Daniel, Frank, David, Chas. Matilda, Lou and Angeline. All the family accompanied him except Angeline, a married daughter. He located on the farm now occupied by the deceased and was one of the first citizens of Broughton.

Two of his family, Geo. Reeves of Reevesville, Ill., and Frank Reeves of Broughton, Ill., still survive.

Daniel Arthur Reeves was married to Martha Ann Gholson, who survives him, on April 14, 1881. To this union seven children were born: Albert G. Reeves of St. Louis; Mrs. Mary Brown of Royalton, Ill., Miss Lou Reeves and Mrs. Anne Hamilton of Broughton; three children died at an early age..

The deceased professed faith in Christ at the age of fifteen, and united with the First Baptist church of Broughton in 1879 and was ordained as a deacon in 1893. He has been an active member of the church for forty-five years and a teacher of the men's class in Sunday School for thirty-five years.

He has been active in public life, having taught school a number of years, and engaged in merchandising and milling. He has been school treasurer for a number of years, and was the first president of our Vilage Board.

His strong christian character was an inspiration to his friends, and was reflected in his love for his family and neighbors.

If he had been premitted to select his time to pass away, he no doubt would have selected the close of a Sabbath day, a day he had kept sacred so many years.

Funeral services were conducted at the Broughton Baptist Church, June 24, 1924, at 10 o'clock by Elder Cyrus Maulding, in the presence of a large congregation. Burial in Gholson cemetery.
