Jerry was born Jan. 19, 1928, in Broughton to Elza Ray Minnie Irene (Richardson) Gaines.

On July 3, 1948, he married Dana Mae Phillips. They were blessed with three children, Carol Ann, Randy Dean and Cindy Rae.

In Jerry’s younger years, he enjoyed collecting Indian artifacts, fishing, quail hunting and trapping.

In Jerry’s later years, these activities turned into loafing at the coffee shop, bird feeding and watching. He especially enjoyed gardening and his pigs and goats.

Jerry and his family came to the Hominy area in July 1962 because of a transfer from the Illinois oil fields. He retired from Texaco after 38 years of service.

During those years, he worked in his spare time as a painter, painting many churches, schools and homes in the Hominy area.

After retiring from Texaco, Jerry also worked for Superior Oil and later for Wal-Mart in Cleveland, Okla.

He served in the U.S. military in the Navy during World War II.

He has three wonderful grandchildren, Christel, Travis and Jordan, and one step grandson, Roy, who has given him great pleasure over the years.

Burial was to be in Illinois.
