ELDORADO, ILL. -

Madeline Gaines, 89, of 6620 Route 142 North, Eldorado, died 1:15 a.m. Sunday, April 5, 2009, at Ferrell Hospital, Eldorado.

Services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 7, 2009, at Watson Funeral Home in Eldorado with the Rev. Janet Roy officiating. Burial will be in Douglass Cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 6, 2009, at the funeral home.

She was born May 28, 1919, in the Douglass community of Rector Township in Saline County to Truman and Mary (Wilson) Gwaltney. She married Clifford Gaines, who preceded her in death on Oct. 7, 1984.

She was a homemaker and a member of Douglass Presbyterian Church in the Douglass community.

She is survived by two sons, Billy Ray (Mary) Gaines and Clifford Gaines and Marianne Higgson; a sister, Betty (Kenneth) Doerner of Carmi; three grandchildren, Michael Gaines, Beverly (Dolly) Smith and Cynthia (Sam) Justice; seven great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Ned Gwaltney; and a sister, Thelma Reynolds.

Memorial contributions may be made to Douglass Cemetery.
