OBITUARY

Polly Davis

Mrs. Polly Davis, daughter of Cuff and Abigail Smith, was born September 22, 1859, in Hamilton county. She lived to the age of 37 years and passed away suddenly Dec. 10, 1946, in her hometown at Broughton.

She was married in 1886 to James Solomon Davis who preceded her in death in October, 1943. They had acquired a large farm during their lifetime and lived many happily married years together. They had been members of the Hickory Hill Baptist church for many years.

To this union three children were born Carl Davis of Broughton, Mrs. Vada Johnson of McLeansboro, and Mrs. Lila Rogers of Rantoul. She is survived by 15 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

She had taught school in this county for many years previous to her marriage, and it has always been her greatest joy to meet her pupils on different occasions and greeted them by calling them her boys and girls.
