Celeste L. Dawes

Celeste Louisa Dawes was born March 6, 1854, daughter of Dr. Edward Dawes & Delila Thrasher. She married James Tomzen Gholson September 26, 1872 and their home was in Broughton near the west end of Dawes St. A son Charles was born November 23, 1876 but died in infancy. Another son born August 29, 1879 was named Floyd Baudway Gholson.

Her husband James became a physician attending St. Louis Medical School. His practice was short as he died of Pneumonia at the age of abt. 28.

Celeste L. Gholson then married again on October 23, 1883 to M. L. Clark her former brother-in-law that was married to her sister Margaret that had died. Their living children were Edward Everett born October 17, 1886 and Raleigh Emerson Clark born 1888. Edward called "Everett" Clark was in US Army stationed in Alabama and Panama as a postmaster. He died in Pecos TX., 8-23-1911 and is buried in Gholson Cemetery. Raleigh Clark, moved to Los Angeles California, where he raised his family.

M.L Clark died November 25, 1897.

She married Robert Barker October 18, 1903 (no know children) He died November 24, 1912.

Lou was very good at making clothing and dresses to order and had her own sewing machine taking orders for clothing in Broughton.

Her son Floyd B. Gholson married Emily Caroline Viers Wilson and had Mary Louisa and James Everett Gholson. They refferred to her as grandma Barker.

"Lou" as she was called, died June 29, 1931.

She is buried at Gholson Cemetery next to her first husband James Tomzen Gholson and her stone reads "Louisa Barker" 1854 - 1931.
