Thomas J. Porter is reported by some as having married Martha Jane Gholson, she being born 1827. She possibly was the daughter of James Gholson and Mary "Polly" Hudson that had a daughter born 1827. (not proven yet) both Thomas J. and Martha J. are listed in Gholson Cemetery with children. Thomas J. Porter was the father of Anderson Buel Porter.
