Mrs. Ella Hughes, Wife of Broughton Mayor, Dies Sunday

Mrs. Ella M. Hughes, 75, wife of Mayor Sherman Hughes of Broughton, died Sunday at 5:45 p.m at her home there following several months of ill health.

Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2 p.m from the Broughton Baptist church with the Rev. Marion Henson and the Rev. Frank Griffith officiating. Burial was in the Gholson cemetery.

Mrs. Hughes was born in 1889, threee miles southeast of Broughton, the daughter of William and Frances Gwaltney Reeder. She was the last survivor of a family of seven children.

Her first husband, Sam Miller died in 1934, and she was married June 24, 1936 to Sherman Hughes.

Surviving are her husband one daughter, Mrs. Ruth Gholson, Broughton and three grandchildren.

The Turner funeral home, Norris City, was in charge.
