Grant Greer, 97, Dies; Services Friday At 2 P.M.

Grant Greer, a prominent native of the Broughton community in Hamilton County, passed away Tuesday at 4:35 p.m, in Pearce Hospital, Eldorado. He was 97.

Born in Hamilton County February 26, 1872, he was the son of William and Sarah Richison Greer. A Retired farmer, Mr. Greer spent most of his life in the community two miles east of Broughton. He served as director of the North Fork Drainage District for eight years, was Hamilton County Surveyor 12 years and Road Commissioner six years.

In recent years he had resided with his son and daughters in Norris City, Eldorado and Broughton.

Survivors include three sons, Lyman Greer, Norris City, Lanzell, Elyria, Ohio, and Edward, Rantoul; two daughters, Mrs Don (Beulah) Upchurch, Eldorado, and Mrs. Earl (Ruby) Owen Broughton; eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by 12 brothers and sisters.

Funeral services for Mr. Greer will be conducted Friday at 2 p.m. from the Broughton Baptist Church, the Revs. Seba Marshall and Delmar Feazel officiating. Interment will be in Hickory Hill Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Gholson Funeral Home after 1 p.m. Thursday.
