Obituary

William Lewis Ruphard

William Lewis Ruphard, son of Henry and Katherine Ruphard, was born September 20, 1869. Departed this life February 7, 1954 at his home in New Haven at the age of 85 years, four months and eighteen days.

He was united in marriage to Teoria Elizabeth Scott on December 25, 1898, who preceded him in death October 1, 1937. To this union was born 8 children, four sons and four daughters. Namely: Ewell and Louie of Joliet, Joe of Broughton, Ermal Clevenger of McLeansboro, Addis Webb of Dale, Nellie Mitchell and Lulu Moore of Broughton and Hermon who preceded him in death on November 15, 1939.

As a young man he professed hope in Christ and became a member of the Baptist Church of Broughton.

He served his country during the Spanish American War.

He was united in marriage to Mrs. Emma Gill of New Haven in 1948. He leaves to mourn his companion; the above named children, 27 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; one brother, James Ruphard of Portageville, Mo.; three step-children, Mrs. Hazel Questall and Mrs. Mary Franks of New Haven and Roy Gill of Alton, Ill.; with a host of other relatives and friends.

Though sad and lonely we look forward with faith and hope to a reunion in the "land of fadeless day." Dear Father, we shall never forget, thy brow, thine eyes, thy pleasant smile!

Though in the sea of death hath set thy star of life--my guide awhile. Oh, never shall thy form depart, from the bright pictures of my heart.

Funeral services were held at the Broughton Baptist church. February 9, 1954, conducted by Rev. John B. Maulding. Interment in Gholson cemetery.
