This old Bible has family names with
William T. Gholson, some of his children, S. B. Gholson,
John R. Gholson and Loucinda Gholson with her birth date.
Some of writing has faded out and some has been written
over with red ink in a later time. Part of front has a
few chapters of Genesis missing, but in the front cover
is a record of marriage date of James Allen and
Elizabeth. I think possibly that the Bible belonged to
Elizabeth and she died as James wrote the dates in it and
dated it 1850, giving it to his daughter Sarah E. (Allen)
Gholson wife of Wm. Thomas Gholson. James Allen
supposedly remarried in late 1850. Possibly also, Sarah
may have ask her father to write the marriage date in her
Bible so she would have a record of the date. This Bible was left in the home of Bernice (Owens) Wooldridge and may have been passed on to her through her family as her gr grandfather was Wm. Thomas Gholson. Thanks to Rick Moore for saving it from being lost with the house. Please click on links below to view hand writing and records in the Bible. |
