Former Broughton Couple Die Within 2 Hours of Each Other

Funerals were held Saturday for John W. Carlisle, 87, and his wife Grace, 80, who died of heart attacks an hour and 15 minutes apart last Thursday.

The Carlisles were former residents of Broughton and the Mt. Olivet community, Mr. Carlisle having taught school at both places.

Services were held at 2 p.m from the Kutis funeral home in St. Louis. Burial was also in St. Louis. The Carlisles had moved to that city 17 years ago.

Mrs. Carlisle was the former Grace MacMorrow, daughter of the late Charles and Mary MacMorrow, who resided in McLeansboro. Mr. Carlisle had been in failing health for several years, but his wife was sick only a short time. They had been married 59 years.

Carlisle died at 7 p.m in the Little Flower Convalescent Home. His wife died at 8:15 p.m. in St. Anthony's hospital without learning of her husband's death.

Carlisle taught school in Missouri and Illinois until 1926 when he entered the general merchandise business in Broughton.
