He was born July 30, 1935 in Herod to Hubert and Myrtle (Owen) McDonald. Earl was the recreation director for the department of Mental Health, State of Illinois at Alton. He was a U.S. Army veteran. He was of the Baptist faith.

The funeral service was Thursday at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro. The Rev. Bill Gholson officiated. Burial was in Hickory Hill Cemetery near Broughton, with graveside military rites by American Legion Post 106.

Earl is survived by aunt Irene Partain of Broughton, uncle Wilburn Owen of Findlay, Ohio; and several cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
