Edgar Gwaltney & Joe Matricord convicted 1932

Edgar Gwaltney, 46, of Eldorado was convicted by a jury in Circuit Court at McLeansboro Saturday on a charge of kidnapping. No sentence was passed pending a hearing on a motion for a new trial. Indicted with him on the charge was Joe Matricord, who was to ill to stand trial. Both are Eldorado miners. The two men were charged with taking Malcolm Gwaltney, 19, and his brother, Hayward, 16, from their home near Broughton. The elder boy was tied to a tree and brutally flogged, according to testimony at the trial.
