BROUGHTON - Ewell Lee Ruphard Jr., 83, of Broughton, passed away at 8:55 p.m. Thursday, April 22, 2010, in the Wabash Christian Retirement Center in Carmi.

He was born in Hamilton County on June 12, 1926, the son of Ewell Lee and Ester Augusta (Wheeler) Ruphard Sr. He graduated from Southern Illinois University with a degree in education and taught beginning in the one room school house.

He was a member of Walpole Tuscan Masonic Lodge 630 and was also a United States Army veteran of World War II.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro with the Rev. Robert Sefried officiating. Interment will follow at Digby Hill Cemetery near Dale with graveside military rites by the McLeansboro American Legion Post 106.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with a Masonic service at 7 p.m.

Mr. Ruphard is survived by several cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter, Ester Louise Ruphard.
