Kenneth Calvin Porter, 82, died at 12:20 a.m Saturday March 27, 2004, at VIP Manor in Wood River.

He was born March 25, 1922, in Broughton, Ill., to Ambrose Oscar and Lillie Elizabeth (McQuay) Porter.

He married M. Lavada Johnson-Pence on June 29, 1973, in Edwardsville.

A World War II Navy veteran, he was an operator at Amoco Oil and the owner of Kelly's Dugout in Rosewood Heights. He was a member of Alton VFW Post 1308 and the Alton Eagles.

Survivors include two daughters, whom he raised, Patty Halfman of Edwardsville and Penny Harkey of Bethalto; four grandchildren, Alex and Jordan Halfman and Chadd and Dylan Harkey; and one sister, Linda Downs of Jerseybille.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Frances and Eugene Porter, and three sisters, Hazel Schafer, Mary Ashcraft and Vakel Baker.

There will be no visitation. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens Chapel. The Rev. John Kessler will officiate.

Burial will be at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens.
