              100 years ago, from the Weekly Register Issue of March 27, 1903

                           Lorenzo Gaines of Texas City and Mrs Sophronia Pearce of Eldorado were joined in wedlock last Tuesday. Mr Gaines is a merchant and farmer and one of the wealthiest men in the county. besides being wealthy, he is honest, upright, and in every way one of our very best men. He is one of the firm of Hamilton and Gaines of Broughton and owns extensive farms near Texas City. Mrs Pearce, the bride, is one of Eldorado's charming women, possessed of a high order of intelligence, endowed with that womanly spirit that makes one's home a heaven, and our friend Gaines is to be congratulated on capturing such a prize. The happy couple will reside in the home of the bride in this city.-----Exchange from the Eldorado Republican.
