Letitia Jane Gaines was born December 29, 1840 in Botetourt Co., or Roanoke Co., Virginia. She was the sixth child of Gibson W. Gaines and Ann Thrasher. After the death of her mother, in 1845, her father, Gibson W. Gaines and chldren left Virginia and migrated to Southern Illinois.
Letitia married William T. Owen January 8,
1863 in Hamilton Co., Ill. Letitia died July 4, 1920 in Hamilton
Co., Ill. and is buried at Gholson Cemetery in Hamilton Co
.
Her husband,
William T. Owen died in Stoddard Co., Mo. October 29, 1900 and is
buried at Hobbs Chapel Cemetery in Stoddard Co.
The grave, at Gholson Cemetery, beside Letitia, which was to have been her husbands, went unused for many years. When in 1959 my Great Grandmother Anna Lambert died the Owen "cousins" told my Grandparents, Dan & Esther Shroyer, that they could use the grave for Anna, Esther's mother. So there at Gholson Cemetery lying side by side is my Great Great Grandmother Letitia Owen from one side of the family next to my Great Grandmother Anna Lambert from the other side of the family.
