Susan Matilda Gaines born June 4, 1844, probably in Roanoke County, Virginia. She died December 21, 1922 at Broughton, Illinois. She was the last of seven children born to Gibson W. Gaines and Ann Thrasher. After the death of her mother, Ann in 1845, her father Gibson Gaines and children left Virginia and migrated to Illinois in about 1848. Matilda would have been about four years old at the time.

     On October 8, 1868, Tomzen Gholson married she and John David Keasler in Hamilton Co., Ill. John David Keasler was the son of Jesse Keasler and Clarinda Douglas. He was born August 10, 1844 in Illinois and died November 2, 1893 at Norris City, Illinois.

Both John David and Susan Matilda are buried in Mt. Oval Cemetery at Norris City, Illlinois. They had no children.
