Obituary

Elizabeth A. Gholson wife of J. H. Gholson, daughter of Daniel and Harriet Shroyer, was born at Fairmont, Illinois, September 4, 1848. Departed this life, at her home in Broughton, March 4, 1922. Aged 73 years, 6 months, she professed a faith in Christ at the age of 14 and united with the M. E. Church. She was married to I. W. Mercer when about 18 years of age. To this union was born a daughter, Amy Mercer, who at an early age passed to the Great Beyond, where she waited to welcome the coming of mamma to the Eternal Home. Aunt Lee, as she was called, was married to Archibald Marshall, January 20, 1898, with whom she enjoyed a happy life near Dahlgren, until December 27, when Mr. Marshall passed to the Great Beyond.

She was married december 22, 1910 to James Harve Gholson, her devoted and aged companion, who she leaves, besides a brother, John A. Shroyer of Broughton, two devoted sisters, Mrs. Margarette Pottinger and Mrs. Harriet Partridge of Chicago. Also two orphan children, Mrs. Mable Watkins and brother Lester Burton of St. Louis, who for a number of years made their home with her. She loved these children as her own. She also leaves a host of relatives and friends to mourn their loss which is her eternal gain. She was a patient sufferer for several years. A few hours before her spirit took its flight a neighbor offered prayer that she might pass without a struggle, they sang, "My Jesus, I Love Thee," and the expression on her face showed that she understood and realized the truthfulness of the song.

The following is a poem found in the Bible: "And now, I await God's call. Fold me, O, Father, in thy arms and let me henceforth be a messenger of love."

Funeral services conducted at M. E. Church, by W. E. Bennett, Monday the 6th of March. Interment at Dahlgren March 7th.
