TWO BROUGHTON MEN FATALLY INJURED
IN AUTO ACCIDENT NEAR McLEANSBORO
Joseph Porter and George Mitchell died From Injuries Recieived in Collision On State Route 142 Monday Morning. Two Others Were Seriously Injured In Crash.
Two residents of Broughton are dead and two others are seriously injured as the result of an automobile accident that occurred Monday morning on Route 142 about four miles south of McLeansboro, near Hoodville. The dead are Joseph Porter, age 67, prominent Broughton business man, and George Mitchell, aged 49, World War veteran.
The accident is said to have occurred when Mr. Porter, driving his Chevrolet sedan, enroute to McLeansboro from Broughton, attempted to pass a truck driven by Homer Jones of Walpole, and crashed headon into the Standard Oil truck, driven by Don Irvin of this city.
The occupants of the Porter car were Mr. Porter, Mitchell, Elmer Driskell, age 45, Larlan Southard, 19, and Floyd Southard, 17, all of Broughton.
