Gholston & wife to Webb Deed

Recorded 22nd March 1831

This Indenture made this 18th of March One thousand Eight hundred & Thirty one between Paris Gholston & Mary Gholston his wife of the state of Illinois Gallatin county of the one part & James Webb of sd. county & State of the other part witneseth That the sd. Paris Gholston & Mary his wife for and in consideration of the sum of one hundred & forty dollars the receipt where of is hereby acknowledged hath sold unto the sd. James Webb the East half of the South west quarter of Section 27 of Township 7 South in Range nine east in sd. County in the district of Shawneetown containing Eighty Acres and by these presents have granted bargained and sold and do hereby grant bargain sell alien and release unto the sd. James Webb the above described tract or parcel of land together with the premises appurtenances, profits rents and all that pertains thereto. And the said Paris Gholston and Mary his wife do hereby bind themselves their heirs and assigns to warrant and foreever defend the title to the above described tract of land to sd. James Webb his heirs and assigns against any person claiming under them and all other claim or claims Whatever & the sd. Paris Gholston & Mary Gholston do hereby assert & bind themselves that they have full power and Lawfull Authority to convey the above premise in the manner & form & for the purposes above written in testimony of which we have here unto set our hands & seals the day & date above written.

Cooper a Justice of the peace in and for sd county, came the within names Paris Gholson and his wife Mary Gholson, she being Examined separate and apart from her husband and both acknowledged the within instrument to be their act and deem according to the true intent and meaning thereof. Given under my hand and seal this 18th day March 1831

Paris Lee Gholson was the younger son of Francis Gholson & Mary Craig. Paris Lee married Mary Webb in 1820 and settled in Gallatin County, Illinois where he farmed & schooled his children in Cottonwood area.
