WILLIAM LEO BOYD

PFC William Leo Boyd, son of Nellie and Andy Boyd was born Feb 1, 1916 Hamilton County, near Broughton, Ill and graduated from the public schools there. He was inducted into the army Jan 31, 1941 and received his basic training at Ft Knox, Ky where he was stationed until April 1942. At that time he was sent to Fort Dix, New Jersey. Leo left this country May 10, 1942 and landed in Ireland a few days later. In November 1942 his company, the 47th Med Battalion of the 1st Armored Division Participated in the Invasion of North Africa, and all the Major battles there. He died in defense of his country at Anzio Beachhead in Italy on Mar 23, 1944. He was the grandson of Mrs Hilda Parsons of Broughton.
