Robert Hershal Scott

Obituary

In the great Book of Life we are told that it is appointed once for man to die--so it was with Robert Hershal Scott, son of W. E. and Tessie Scott.

He was born near Broughton in Hamilton County, Illinois, on Oct. 4, 1914; departed this life at his home in McLeansboro on Dec. 15, 1939, at the age of 25 years, 2 months and 11 days.

His sudden death was a surprise to his family and many friends, although he had been in falling health for some time, but at the time of his death seemed to be improving.

Hershal was educated, having attended the grade schools of our county, later graduating from the McLeansboro High School, Class of 1933. He was a very obedient and industrious boy at home and at school. His manner and life was such that he won the love and confidence of all that it was his pleasure to meet. He took advantage of the opportunities of an education offered him, and was qualified to fill places of trust in life should he have lived to be called upon.

Hershal was one of a family of twelve children, three infants having preceded him in death.

He leaves to mourn his passing the above named father and mother, five sisters and three brothers, namely; Edith Hendrickson of Alton, Ill., Willard of McLeansboro, Gene of Henderson, Ky., Carl of McLeansboro, Susan of Wood River, Ill., Millard, June, Emma Lee and Ula Rose of McLeansboro, besides a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at the First Baptist Church in McLeansboro on Sunday, Dec. 17, conducted by Elders D. H. Knight and John B. Maulding Interment took place in Gholson Grove cemetery near Broughton.
