From Kentucky to the Ozarks of Missouri, Greatgrandfather Milton Burch was born in Estill County, Kentucky in 1822.

He served in the Mexican War under Zachary Taylor,  and he was also a Union Soldier in the Civil War.

Before the Civil War, he married Mary E. Green of Scott County, Illinois.  Later he moved the family to Buffalo, Missouri; there he was a teacher, postmaster, merchant and in real estate.

After the Civil War he moved to Linn Creek, Camden Co., Missouri and lived there the rest of his life.  Milton and Mary had three sons and one daughter, William, Cordelia, Samuel Milton and Lycurgus.

Samuel Milton married Sarah E. Scott, daughter of James Wesley and Elisa Angeline (Webb) Scott.

Samuel Milton and Sarah had five sons and three daughters, William, James Milton, Ollie Mae, Mary Angeline, Wesley S., Clarence S., Ora, and Fred.  Ora and Fred are still living.

James Milton married Melvina Leffert, daughter of William Wiley and Lydia Elmerie (Cisco) Leffert, they had three sons, Ned, Ben, and Wes.  Melvine died when the boys were small.  In April, 1926, James Milton married Margaret Julia Hanks, daughter of Joseph Preston and Katherine (Hightower) Hanks.  James Milton and Margaret Julia had eight children, Joseph Milton, Helen S., Marvel J., William E., Mildred M., John M., James D. and Twila.  John and Twila died in infancy.
