"dim Jim's Home"

The motivation for creating this web page is to share my collection of family history information and to preserve much of this for future generations. The information displayed at this site was gathered from many sources - (some of which I can't recall J ). A large percentage of the genealogical data on the Almquist/Svenson, Carlson, Elliott, and Glandon families, was donated by my brother Jon, who passed away in 2004. My late cousin, Jim Kinman was a great help in obtaining and sharing information on the later generations of the Almquist/Svenson descendants, although much of this current data will not be shown on these pages due to privacy issues.
PLEASE NOTE: If your name appears in these pages and you object, please let me know and I'll be glad to remove it.

This site is too Large for this search engine.  It has indexed Most of the site, but do not rely on it to find everything.

"The Almquist Story" by Rhoda (Almquist) Leavitt (April 2000)

Rhoda sent me a copy of her memories and stories of the Almquist family covering most of the twentieth century. She did a wonderful job of putting her thoughts and recollections on paper. Rhoda has put in untold hours detailing those "little things" that make a real family history, and those shared memories add so much "body" to those cousins that I've known only as names and dates.

It is my hope that as you read this little history, your memory my be jolted into remembering other stories that deserve to be shared with other family members and most importantly, with our descendants in the generations to follow.

PLEASE - as you read this and recall other stories or variations and additions, that might be of interest, jot them down and e-mail them to jim-almquist@email.msn.com I will link your additions to Rhoda's composition for everyone to enjoy.

Thank you Rhoda, for sharing with us, and for loving and keeping track of your many Aunts, Uncles and Cousins. And thank you for your permission to include your efforts on this site. Jim Almquist

Diary written during World War II by Ernest J Almquist - 1944-45

Diary written by Harold F Almquist - 1935

This diary was written while Harold was living at home on the family farm just south and west of Keene, Nebraska. It reports on most daily happenings of the family and friends of Albert and Anna Almquist.

 Diary written by Albert John Almquist - 1940, 1941, 1942, 1943, 1944, 1945, 1946, 1947, 1948, 1949, 1950, 1951 missing, 1952 , 1953 Albert & Anna also kept a guest book over the years - view it here.

This diary was written for the most part by Albert Almquist, but on some rare occasions when he was out of town, his wife Anna was "put in charge" of keeping up this daily account. This was transcribed, as nearly as possible, word for word. I did not knowingly correct or change any spelling or words. This will make it a little harder to use the "Find" function on your browser, but I did want to preserve these diaries "as written". For those of you who knew Albert, you "can almost hear his voice". At times, when the daily entry included only a weather report, I omitted that day's entry.

Biography of Pearl E (Glandon) Almquist

While cleaning out mom's desk, I came across an interesting account of her life. The account covers her early childhood in the sandhills of Keya Paha County Nebraska, and life in the Wilcox / Ragan area of Kearney & Harlan Counties in Nebraska.

Elliott Letters written by Georgiana (HALL) ELLIOTT from 1874 through 1913. Thanks to Doug McNiel for his many hours transcribing these letters and helping to preserve them for future generations. And especially, thanks for allowing me to display this collection on this site.

Lost Gold Mine?… probably not, BUT - this image of the Majestic Tunnel of the M M M & D Co. was found among some old photos belonging to my Glandon family. Several of the photos were identified as taken in the Colorado Springs / Manitou Springs / Cripple Creek area of Colorado about 1895-1900. It is probable that James F and Louisa Glandon were in the area during this period of the gold rush. I have searched the mining archives of Teller County and can not locate this mine. Anybody have a clue? Click here
