My Uncle Charles was a half-brother of my Grandma Ruth, born 16 January 1908, the fourth and last child of GGrandfather Frank Augustus Miller and his second wife Nellie Conklin , whom he married 22 June 1900. Frank A. Miller had a total of 10 children with Cora A. Fenn and Nellie Conklin. Uncle Charles graduated from Stanton High School in 1926 and went to work in the banking business. He married Lila A. Perkins on 20 June 1931, in Wheeler, MI. In 1933, he was hired by the Michigan Banking Department and appointed receiver of 3 banks in Six Lakes, McBride, and Vestaburg. He also worked for the Michigan State Treasurer's Office as a bank examiner. In 1945, he was hired by the State Savings Bank in Stanton, later becoming it's Chief Executive Officer. He was also a president of the Michigan Banker's Association, Mayor of Stanton, Mi., chairman of the Montcalm County Republican Party, a charter member of Central Michigan Sportsman's Club, a published poet, and an accomplished carver of wood duck decoys. He also loved the outdoors and hunting with family and friends.
Uncle Charles passed away at the age of 92 on Sunday, 2 December 2000, in Grand Rapids, MI. Below is a picture of Uncle Charles and Aunt Lila, taken July 4, 1980, during a reunion at the Dingman Orchard near Stanton, MI. My cousin Kim recently informed me that his mother, my Aunt Lila, passed away 27 August 2002 in Ionia, MI, after a short illness.
