Our Online Data Guidelines
** If you are considering sharing data with me please be assured by my policies that protect your work and your privacy. **
Privacy. Before I post any information to my WorldConnect database it is "cleaned" of details for individuals born within the last 100 years. These people are considered "living" for privacy purposes and only last names appear for them. If you find information for a living person listed in my online database please notify me immediately.
Giving Credit Where Credit is Due. When you share information with me I will cite you as my source in my WorldConnect database. If you cite sources within your data I will still cite you as my source. I will not copy your bibliography. If you want your email address to be included in my references to your work please make a request. I will not share your email address online without your request. If you have a web site I will be happy to include a link to it from my site. I will only link to "family friendly" sites.
Permission. I will not forward your original documents on to anyone without your permission and without notifying you of other's interest in your work.
GEDCOM sharing. I do not allow my online GEDCOM to be downloaded and I do not share my entire file in GEDCOM format with anyone. All my data (pre the last 100 years) is available to viewed online and I will generate custom reports upon request. Very few people would have an interest in all the family branches represented in my file.
Format. When sharing your family branch(es) with me I prefer Descendant Registers as email attachments in RTF format. I am very flexible on this. If you send me a GEDCOM it will be integrated into my file very slowly if at all. I will accept all information in any format you have but if you have a choice I prefer the above.
Post-ems. I welcome Post-ems to my WorldConnect database. Be advised that I may integrate information from the post-em to my file with a citation to the author and remove the original post-em.
Accuracy. I do not guarantee the accuracy of my posted data. Much of my data is collected from secondary sources. It is collected from published works now in the public domain, public records and other researchers like you. The information may or may not be accurate. Please use it accordingly.
